Elaine de Leon is a strategic communications professional with experience developing and managing campaigns that leverage the power of storytelling, public relations and marketing for social change.

With nearly a decade of advocacy and communications experience, Elaine has helped nonprofit and faith-based organizations influence the national conversation on a variety of issues, including inequality, climate change, health and wellness, intellectual and developmental disabilities, criminal justice and human rights.

Elaine most recently served as an Account Manager at Vanguard Communications, a D.C.-based public relations and social marketing firm, where she helped build, launch, and manage multifaceted projects that included strategic communications planning, message and materials development, media outreach, event production, partnership development, and video production.

She previously served as the Communications Director of the Institute for Policy Studies, the nation’s first multi-issue progressive think tank, where she oversaw its communications activities, including content development, print, broadcast, and online media outreach, website development, and a rebranding process.

Elaine has extensive experience in communications capacity-building. She has helped organizations improve their communications functions by conducting communications audits, building teams, and developing internal communications infrastructures. Elaine has also conducted media trainings and various workshops in public opinion research, message development, online communications strategy, and personal branding.  

Elaine serves on the Board of Directors of Share, a national organization that serves families who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. She holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Communications from the American University and a Masters in Theological Studies, with an emphasis on public theology, from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.

In her free time, Elaine enjoys watching baseball, reading, practicing yoga, getting in a good workout at Orange Theory, trying new recipes, and supporting Northern Virginia’s burgeoning wine industry.
